Fuji xt1 | Testing A Mirrorless Camera | {MyrtleBeach Photographer}

I LOVE my Nikon D800 like a third child, but that is some seriously heavy gear!  I began looking for a camera that was light enough to throw in my purse, but one that yields images that I can still be proud to share.  Point and shoot cameras always leave me disappointed!  I researched for a while, and then bit the bullet... on a Fuji XT1.  I have had the camera for a few days now, and I wanted to share my thoughts, and better yet, share some images!

What's the verdict?  I love this camera!  It totally fits the bill for me and my needs!  It's light and easy to access.  I can be FAR more discreet with the Fuji, which makes it excellent for travel, street photography, etc.  I am still trying to find my groove with focusing using the electronic view finder, but I am beyond pleased!

I wanted to share some images so far, since so many people seem to be on the fence about going mirrorless (and which route to go).  The images below are not creative images.  They are not my finest work, lol.  They are the result of me testing out this little camera.  None of these pictures has been processed or edited at all.  They were all shot in jpeg format, then loaded straight onto my website.  I must say that the colors just keep blowing me away!

I will throw in a caveat here.  In my personal opinion, the Fuji XT1 is NOT a camera to be used in "Auto" mode.  If you can't fully appreciate how to use a camera in Manual mode, or identify when you might want to operate in S or P mode, you may be disappointed with images.  I left my husband alone with the camera choosing most of the settings, and none of the images were even print-worthy.  However, once I moved the setting around, specifically selecting my shutter speed and ISO, all was right again!  I think it's important to know that this is not a point and shoot.  This baby can dance if you know how to let it.

So, again, no edits.  SOOC (straight out of the camera):

This image was taken in Monochrome mode, which I find very helpful if you are shooting specifically for black and white.

I over-exposed this one a bit too much, but oh well....

The camera had a really hard time finding this guy, but once I was able to lock focus, it kept the dragonfly locked in.

I realize that no one needs to see this many pictures of butterflies, but again, I was impressed with the color and detail!

I hope this "non-technical" review was helpful for someone who may be on the fence about mirrorless cameras, or the Fuji XT1, specifically.  I have no regrets so far!  I'm feeling more ready to really play now with some more creative shots.  If you have this camera, please let me know what you think about it!  If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them!
